Switcharoo

The consensus on my lamps was that I needed to change the shades to black.
I've recently come to terms with the fact that I'm also a hoarder of lamps/lighting.
(So, I already had a pair of black shades.)

When I changed the shades I didn't think the mirror was working,
so I switched out a few different paintings and thought this one looked best.

This is what it looked like before
What do you think? better, worse, or the same?....

While we're talking about lamps in the living room...
Do you think this vintage mod baby blue gourd lamp is working on the desk behind the love seat?
I liked the color and she made me an offer a hoarder couldn't refuse.
I got it at the thrift store for a mere $5.

between us we could open a pretty cool store. you find the lamps and i'll find the clothes. i adore that baby blue lamp! i like the black shades on the other lamps too. it's hard to tell if the lamp is too tall for its location or is it just the way you photographed it. either way i like it.

Love the black lamps and new picture - very "smart" looking. Not as wild about the blue lamp. Having seen the black ones, I want a big pop of color somewhere. Please remember that I have terrible taste!

Love the shades but I think I'd bring back the mirror - the scale was really great. Love, love the blue lamp.

Those black lamps are perfect! Good on you! I drive myself crazy with all these decisions, I know something is not right, but don't know how to fix it. One of the colours lacking in our living room is black, it anchors everything so maybe that's the missing link...(And Love the blue, what a bargain!)

I agree with Michelle, the scale of the mirror was great. Perhaps you could paint the frame or find a large painting that works there.
The blue lamp is fab but it might benefit from a longer shade to hide the little bit of neck you can see making it look less "leggy".
All in all it is a very nice room.

Are you serious? $5.00? Wow! I love the color. It seems to match the pillow perfectly. My first thought was it might be a tad bit tall, but it could be the picture. I think someone else might have mentioned that as well. I love the black shades. I, too, liked the size of the mirror. It is looking beautiful! Hugs! Bonnie

Love the black shades, love the mirror, and not a fan of the pale blue lamp.

I love the pop of black...it is the best accent color!
The blue lamp is gorgeous and a covetable steal for only $5!!!

Love the black shades. Preferred the scale of the mirror. Darken the frame and put it back there. The blue lamp was a steal but seems too tall in that location.... perhaps it is the way you photographed it. Your room is really lovely!!

Julie,
Seriously what would you do without us and our free opinions...
1. Love the black shades, think I would love a white finial?
2. Bring back the mirror. I loved the scale.
3. The Aqua lamp is a bit tall, so could it come down to
a lower table....and maybe the shade could be a print like one of the Thomas Paul prints.
...maybe the Aqua needs to move to another setting since the black and white seem so Hollywood glam.
The Aqua looks more Hollywood Bungalow...
Ok, now I feel so much better that I got that all out.
You really need a shop....I always love your finds.

What a beautiful space. Love the lamps with the black shades, but I loved the mirror - the perfect size!!

Late to the party but the mirror would look great with a black frame, or even gold. The light frame fades into the wall - if it were black it would pop with the shades. This is so fun - since I can't make changes to my house all the time, I can watch you fiddle around. Thanks for the entertainment!

Yes, what WOULD you do without all our free opinions?
My goodness are you uncapable of furnishing your home without consulting everybody on the world wide web? This lamp or that lamp? These shades or those shades? This picture or that mirror? This rug or that rug?

Three words come to mind - GET A LIFE!
Obsession with the minor details in your home is not healthy.
