Simplifying My Life (and garden)

Remember last year when I wrote about my pond management responsibilities
I think I referred to them as a time suck.

I decided this year I needed to scale back.

First, I switched my filters so the more powerful one is in the back pond.
This means I won't have to constantly be cleaning it.

Last year I fiddled around with different vessels for the fountain.
This year I put the iron urn back, which I love.

Second, I installed a simple little spray fountain in the front pond.

Third, I resigned from my volunteer position at the school pond.
After the major overhaul and cleanup, I was a burned out on the whole thing.
They've already replaced me and I couldn't be happier.

Now, all I have to do is sit back and enjoy the sight and sound of my fountain ---I feel better already.

How wonderful! I would feel better too.
Sometimes simplification just is all we need to do to find time to reflect and see our own happiness.

i love this iron urn julie. it looks perfect. i'm so glad you resigned and now have time for your own pond. i know how hard that is to do but sometimes it is so necessary. xo

Julie, I absolutely adore the urn! What a marvelous idea. I am a huge supporter of volunteering, but sometimes we've taken care of our responsibilities and it is someone else's turn. I am so proud of you. (It took me a long time before I came to that realization.) Enjoy your ponds. Bonnie

What a lovely pond you have! We have a much smaller one (100 gallons only), but it is still a responsibility if we want to keep the fish alive and well. But so worth it. I do love visiting with the fish in the evenings.

Glad you freed up some time so you enjoy them, too.

I love your pond. I need to read the backstory. I almost never volunteer anymore. Being an ex-girl scout leader and the community garden coordinator sucked the life out of me. Guess what ...somebody else always steps in!

Wait - so with the school fountain you were looking after a total of five fountains - (from memory think you said you had four yourself). You are the magical mystical water lady. I love that urn in it - it really makes it. The fish are so cool too - do the cats try and get them? I am so in love with our back fountain but its been a lot of work. Tempted to get one on our deck but....

I think you koi pond is one of the prettiest things I have ever seen (and I don't say that very often!). You need to consider having it photographed. The iron urn is stunning!!! M.

Your pond is inspiring me to reassess my smaller pond and "upgrade" it. What happens to it in the winter?
