A Beautiful Morning

We headed over to see the cherry blossoms early on Saturday morning
With the threat of thunderstorms looming all the while

We walked around the tidal basin

I love that Drew still likes to hold hands.

I took pictures with my phone
It's hard to take a bad shot with this many blossoms surrounding you.
Friday was supposed to be the peak, but they were still amazing on Saturday.
(The rain came later in the day, so I'm sure they're gone now.)

DC is absolutely beautiful in the springtime

It's my favorite time of year.

I hope you're surrounded with beauty and enjoying this season too.

shopping the barns

Today I took a little road trip to horse country in Frederick, Maryland.
It's only an hour away and it's an easy drive but I've never ventured out there before.

It's the barn sale weekend and I wanted to see my new friend Kelly's shop.  It was worth the drive!!
First I stopped at the Stylish Patina barn. The ladies were all so friendly and there were some really great buys.  I bought some vintage brass and crystal wall sconces that I plan to use in my master bath when we redo it.

Then I headed over to Chartreuse & Co.

This place was really two barns in one location.

The rustic barn had lots of old painted furniture priced to sell.

There were piles and piles of furniture behind a makeshift wall that I'm guessing weren't ready for prime time yet.

I bought this great old bed for Drew's room.
In the "fancy" barn there were upholstered pieces that I loved. A lot of old frames. A lot of old frames turned chalkboards. A lot of old lighting fixtures.

The main barn is more upscale but with good prices. I think I just walked around with my jaw dragging on the floor. There were so many beautiful things and I found so many inspiring ideas I intend to use.

As I was standing in line to check out I had to snap a picture of this card. I thought it was funny.
The barns are open one weekend a month from Friday through Sunday.  It's a fun day trip.

Switcharoo

The consensus on my lamps was that I needed to change the shades to black.
I've recently come to terms with the fact that I'm also a hoarder of lamps/lighting.
(So, I already had a pair of black shades.)

When I changed the shades I didn't think the mirror was working,
so I switched out a few different paintings and thought this one looked best.

This is what it looked like before
What do you think? better, worse, or the same?....

While we're talking about lamps in the living room...
Do you think this vintage mod baby blue gourd lamp is working on the desk behind the love seat?
I liked the color and she made me an offer a hoarder couldn't refuse.
I got it at the thrift store for a mere $5.

Earthy, Rustic, Organic, Ceramic

Drew and I have been using our new pottery for just about everything.
For some reason food just tastes better when served from a vessel you made.

Dinner last night in my bowl -
Trader Joe's mushroom ravioli with asparagus, portobello mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, fresh lemon juice and a sprinkle of cheese. AMAZING! (and so fast and easy).

Drew's bowl with just the ravioli and a drizzle of olive oil - also very tasty and equally beautiful.

living room latest

I still haven't finished my curtains but I continue swapping tables and lamps around in the living room.
Here's the latest (as of yesterday morning).

I recently found this pair of lamps at Goodwill. They were marked $15 each, but the checkout person noticed the lampshades were in bad shape. So she gave me the pair for $12.
Check out that base!

What do you think?
You can be honest :)
