We're back

We've been in beautiful Coronado beach/San Diego California for the past week.

It was a week of getting close

 spending time with family

Admiring nature's beauty

and learning about other species

 getting wet

and acting silly

The house has also been under a major renovation for the past five weeks.
I'll be back to show you some before and afters once we reach "after".

Oh, the dust!

It's THAT Time of Year Again...

When we decorate the back yard
with balloons
and Banners

and a pinata.

We invite over a few of our friends
to play games

to make bubbles

go down the water slide

and act silly.

Then we sing a song that everybody knows the words to

Eat Cake

then send everyone home with a big cookie.

Having backyard birthday parties never gets old :)

Drew celebrated his 7th birthday today.

(He also lost another two teeth this week!)
My summer baby is growing so fast.

Where the Pros Go

Over the summer you're going to be getting more the "mommy blogger" type posts since that's what I'm doing these days.

Last week Drew asked if we could make sushi, so we turned it into our activity for the day.

We headed out to the H mart. If you're local you might know that the H mart is an eclectic international market (with a slant towards Asian items). It's where DC restaurants/chefs get their goods.

It's also quite an adventure!

You'll see fruits and veggies you've never seen before.

You can shop for housewares.

Pick up a pet or dinner depending how you look at it.

Serve yourself shrimp and live crabs.

Pick up some colorful silk pillows.

Grab a bite to eat

And just poke around --You never know what you'll find.

We made our way home and made sushi for dinner.
It wasn't the prettiest, but for a first attempt I think Drew did great. And, it tasted fantastic.

We even served it up on the little plates we made during our hand building sessions.

Hope you enjoyed our little shopping adventure. If you're local check it out!

Picking and spinning

Before the crazy heat set in we made our way out to Butler's farm to pick blueberries.

What do you do when you have a bucket of berries?
We eat them by the handful, make blueberry pancakes and try out a new sorbet recipe of course!

This one's a keeper.

Just blend
2 1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup water
3 tbsp. lemon juice and zest
3 tbsp. agave nectar

Give the mix a spin in your ice cream maker and let it firm up in the freezer.

Then enjoy a very healthy treat.

Come back tomorrow to hear about our exciting visit to an international grocery store.

The winner of the Novica gift card was Suzy. Congratulations Suzy!
Thank you very much to Novica for sponsoring this giveaway.

Survival Party

Did you hear about the storm we had on Friday? It was CRAZY! Our power was out for 3 days (many still don't have it back yet). But in true Monkey Grass Hill fashion we made the most of it, and had a "survival/cook what's in your freezer before it goes bad" party with some of our neighbors.

the kids played in the hose and mud all day

then we ate the most random combination of food

and when the sun set we lit some candles.

It was REALLY hot! But being with friends helped pass the time.

I'm sure it'll be a lasting memory for the kids too.

Drew said he never wants to watch TV again it was so much fun not having power.

Today is the last day to enter the NOVICA giveaway.  Leave a comment here to enter.
