Second Opinion

I really wanted to bring some color into my very neutral decor.  I picked up this fabric on the remnant table for $5 per yard.  It has all the colors I love and I like the feather motif.  Originally I was thinking I would inject some color into the laundry room/pantry.  But when I draped this fabric in there I realized that I didn't really want to call attention to the laundry area with a colorful curtain.

Then this week I thought, hey, I can use this and bring a little of the hottest color of 2011 into my sunroom. And the busy print will make stains less obvious. So I got busy with my first attempt at making a slipcover for the dining chairs in our sunroom.

I've seen them do something like this on the HGTV shows :)

Here is what it would look like.
If I go with the colored slip covers then I think I'll paint the table white.
(just got the table on Craig's list 2 weeks ago--hate the color, love the size)

After nearly completing one chair I got a little scared that maybe it's too much color-- maybe too much pink.

What do you think? Should I keep going or abandon this project now?

hi julie,

i love the white slipcovers but i do like the fabric too. if you paint the table white then will it be too much white if you decide to use the white slipcovers again? what if you made little lumbar pillows for each chair instead? or what if you made a tablecloth out of the fabric. whatever you do will look fantastic, that i know for sure.

Love it! Keep going!!

Yes, paint the table white -- I think it will help.

I am jealous that you are attempting to do a slipcover. I want to, but have a real fear of failure -- or going completely insane from the difficulty.

Keep going - love it! If you feel it is too much, cover two in new fabric and leave two in white.

Julie, first of all thanks for the kind comment you left on my blog today. I appreciate your support! Now, as to your question - I really like the pattern and color on the fabric. I don't think its too much pink but I can see how you might think so because it's such a change from the white. Maybe you should go ahead and make them and paint the table a putty color so it will look good with either set of slipcovers. And good job - I can't sew a thing!

Keep going!! But I'll break the trend here and say paint the table black. It is the perfect backdrop for all those gorgeous flower arrangements that you will be putting on the table, plus it adds a littel drama.

Oh I love it and don't think it's too much color. Live PVE said you could always keep the white slipcovers - maybe use those in the summer and then changed to the warm, patterned ones sometime in the fall. Great table size - it will look wonderful white.

In my next post this week I'll mention your giveaway. Will let you know when i do.

Don't stop! The fabric really wakes up that room. And, paint that table! If you ever decide to put the white slipcovers back on for a change up, then toss some colorful potted plants on a happy tray in the middle of your white table (I think you should do this regardless of table color). If you continue down the oh-so-right path you are on, you will be giddy with happiness when it is all done. Sheesh, as I read over this I really sound a little ding-y. Roxanne

Oh, yes. Love the print, and the colors. And its overall effect will recede a bit (I think) when all the slipcovers are on. And I agree: paint the table. What fun!

Wow! Looks good! I think you should paint the table white and you could just leave one chair in color. The rest in white. To really tell I would paint the table white first.
Let us know what you have decided!
