I Think I Need Professional Help

Whether the "professional" is a therapist or interior decorator I'm not sure. Maybe I need both :)

After looking at the photos in my last post, I realized I didn't like the new living room arrangement. So I've continued with my game of musical furniture and done a little more moving. I put my desk up against the window, so now I have a view while I'm "working".

I brought the old zebra bench out of hiding

and I put it under the birds which are now stacked.

So the view when you walk in the front door looks like this.

I moved the new love seat (not sure if I went too small with this purchase) under the window
and have the chairs flanking it.

The new/old chairs are at the upholsterer.

with this arrangement I have plenty of room for drinks tables

This is what my book shelves look like today.
As always, this is subject to change at any given moment.

I pulled this bench down from hiding too. I felt like I needed some weight on this side of the room.
And, it can serve as a little extra seating if we need it.

When the upholsterer came I got some bad news (or good news depending how you look at it). My dining chairs would cost way too much to fix.  He said they needed to be completely taken apart and reconstructed and suggested while were were at it I should get new fabric too. I only paid $20 for them to begin with so I'm not going to have him make the repairs on the dining chairs. Now I'll have to start a new search for MORE CHAIRS!

In the meantime I did a little dining chair switch-a-roo and I think I like like the white slipcovered chairs in the dining room better.

While the slipcovers are easy enough to wash, I needed to do it way too often since we were eating most of our meals in the sunroom (on those chairs). I think they balance out the old mirror and chandelier with a little modern/clean lines.

I think I'm done moving furniture for a while. Unless you have some suggestions...

My only thought right now is that those 3 frames hung vertically look rather lonely on that wall. I would either buy three more, or hang two vertically and one next to those, or an entirely different work of art to really fill the space.

With all of this switching around you must have cut biceps! It is all looking good to me - so there is your professional opinion! One thought - back your bookshelves with wallpaper or grass cloth. Make those babies POP! You have a great eye!!

I really like the sofa against the window. A friend introduced me to that concept and I think it always works. Funnily enough it brings even more attention to the view outside! I really like all your arrangements and your bookshelf which has now become an interesting vignette. (Know what you mean about re-arranging. I had to stop because I was driving myself crazy)

hi Julie!
love all your jewels that I see Janet wearing!!

I think your new furniture placement looks great! The first thing I noticed was that I think your birds need to have more wall space between them- this will give them a larger presense and take up more space on the wall, and allow them to be seen individually 'and' as a whole. Some spainish moss for around the base of the plant on the gilt wheat table would hide the plastic from view (one of my favorite tricks;). I like that you didn't use any decorative objects on the top shelf of the bookcase, but think some large stacked books laid horizontally (or any books really- or maybe stacks of old albums?), anything that could be laid horizontally would give those shelves importance and raise the eye up. I like the suggestion of the seagrass, but also think something as simple as a glaze (as it appears the back of the book case is already a different color?) would make all your treasures there pop!
Your zebra ottoman is fabulous!!

First time to view your blog and I love it. I was surprised to see that I have the exact same coffee table in my LR as you do. I purchased it at a consignment shop a year or so ago (after looking for a coffee table for a year). It was a real bargain and I LOVE it. Not sure about the heritage but I love that it does not take up any visual space. I love your style and look forward to following your blog.
