I've Gone Palm Beachy

I had my living room repainted while my contractor was working on the powder room.
I went white. And I've never felt more liberated!

With white walls I'm now more comfortable bringing in color and patterns
I'm mixing my greens and I've added some raspberry floral for a much needed splash. In other words, I've gone pink and green in my living room.

It used to be dark - very beige and brown

(before)

Then I got the craigslist chairs upholstered in a green and white geometric fabric.
And started my game of musical furniture

Then I couldn't stop changing things around - I still think I need professional help

I'm working on a cushion for the window seat and making this little space a cozy nook.
These pillows are a little too big, but I was trying to see how a black and white stripe would work.

(Recognize that lamp shade?
The vintage asian man lamp didn't make the cut but the shade did!)

I've been making pillows like a crazy woman
Is it too much?

Found the pair of vintage garden stools at an estate sale this summer.
They were green, so I had to have them.

I'm fickle, so I made the pillows reversible - one side solid raspberry, the other side floral.

Right now I just have this fabric tacked up to see if I can live with it as a curtain before I invest the time into making them. What do you think? Would you put these two different greens so close together?

And most importantly - Drew made this switch cover in the spring and has been asking me WHEN I would hang it up. It kind of works with all the other colors I've got going on, don't you think?

It's still a work in progress, so if you have any thoughts or suggestions feel free to give 'em to me.

Already There

Yesterday I said I wanted to live in the country.
Well maybe I'm already there.
Seriously, we live minutes from Washington, DC and yet almost daily we see bunnies hopping around our yard, a fox cuts through around 8:00 am and 8:00 pm and then these guys were hanging out a few Saturdays ago pretty much all day.

And, this guy needs to brush up on his reading.
The house clearly says, 'Home for bluebirds" NOT, home for flying squirrels -- he is cute though.
I do love where I live.

Farm Living Is The Place For Me

It was a beautiful fall day yesterday and my good-time-super-sleuthing husband found a farm nearby where we could spend the day...

Picking apples

and pumpkins

watching pigs race

and swimming in corn?....

Forget a beach house. I want a house in the country!

My "Patina Style" Powder Room

When it comes to decorating my house I have to say my train of thought is a little all over the place.  One little purchase can send me in a completely different direction. Which is what happened in my powder room.

I've always thought the novelty of vessel sinks would wear off quickly, so they weren't even on my radar.

But I saw this mirror at my local thrift store for $25 and LOVED it. It immediately made me think of Brooke and Steve Gianetti's world famous bathroom.

So then I thought I HAVE to find a vintage/antique table for the vanity
and I HAVE to use a vessel sink.

I found this little table with a lower shelf and drawer at a little antiques mall.

Once the old sink was removed it was obvious that the new table wasn't as high, and wouldn't cover the spot w/o wallpaper (and I didn't have enough paper to redo that area).

My contractor said he could cut a piece of wood and paint it white
so it would blend in to the wallpaper.
I decided the demilune would have to be painted white too
so it would look like all one piece.

The faucet came with the sink and was ordered from Overstock.com. so I really didn't put a whole lot of thought into that.
I found this Steuben ashtray at the flea market a while ago.
It's the perfect soap dish.

The baskets in the back are holding the extra TP.
I found them about a year ago at Ross and now I need to find one more
bigger one for the bottom.
(I'm not holding my breath though.)

The little vintage chandelier came from the same antiques mall as the table. It was only $50!
So far I've had mostly positive feedback.

It Must Be a Sign

You might have noticed I wasn't blogging much over the summer. I've been busy you know :)

It's been even longer since I created any new jewelry designs.

I've made a few sales here and there.
I even made a barter (right off my own neck) with this double strand of baroque pearls at my son's baseball game. (Hi Nan)

Quite a while ago I opened a jewelry shop on Etsy.
I posted a few pieces and have not really done anything else.
Let's face it, there is a glut of jewelry on Etsy.
It's easy to get lost in the piles and piles of bling.

This morning someone bought this beauty.

Making this little sale has inspired me to get back to work.
I'm off to the post office right now, but then it's up to my studio... Yeah!

Nice Knockers

Our house came with both an ugly door knocker and door bell. Visitors ALWAYS opted for the door bell. The bell had a repeating delay so it sounded like the person was pushing it over and over again.  Human ears could only hear it if you were standing AT the front door.  BUT, dog ears were incredibly sensitive to the sound, so Digby would be sent into a frenzy whenever we had visitors. His hysteria would inevitably get me so worked up that I think on some occasions I might not have seemed so happy to see the person on the other side of the door.

I dream big! And I've been dreaming of getting rid of that door bell and getting a stately lion head door knocker since the day I moved in.

Dreams really do come true!  Seriously this thing has been life-changing.

If you're in the neighborhood just knock :)
